Drainage Water Seeps into the Khankah Charar-i-Sharief Shrine
Residents Appeal DC Budgam for Intervention
Budgam CNS, Mar 1: Due to dilapidated drainage system, water enters the plinth of the historic Khankah Charar Sharif.
A large structure of the Shrine is feared to be further damaged due to the infiltration of sewage into the base of the historic Khankah in the town of Charar Sharif in Budgam District.
Eyewitnesses told the CNS correspondent that due to poor drainage system on all sides of the shrine, water has often started flowing directly into the concrete foundation of the building since last year, which is a sign of increased danger. JKPCC and UEDD departments have not taken any action despite being informed about it.
According to local resident Showkat Ahmed, “some departments have been found guilty in various cases, so they have failed to show progress in making alternative arrangements for drainage. Drainage water can enter and destroy its roots, causing the building to collapse, because wherever the water comes from, it eventually disappears under the ground of the shrine” he said while explaining the problem.
Expressing anguish, he appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Budgam and the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to immediately intervene and solve the problems regarding the historic Khankah. (CNS)
