Shopian, June 13 Shopian Police on Friday issued an advisory to local journalists and media groups, urging them to refrain from going live or reporting from crime scenes before the arrival of police personnel.

The advisory has been issued after instances were observed where some journalists began live coverage from sensitive locations even before the police had reached the spot. “This practice is highly unprofessional and may hinder the investigation process,” the statement from Shopian Police said.

Media personnel have been requested to maintain restraint and allow law enforcement to take official cognizance of any incident before reporting or broadcasting it, he said.

“We seek your cooperation in ensuring that the sanctity of investigations is upheld,” the police added, stressing that no news involving police action should be aired or published until an official statement is issued. (GNS)
