Budgam, Sep 25. A 45-year-old migrant labourer from Haryana was discovered dead on Thursday morning at a brick kiln in Nowbugh village of Chadoora area in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Binder Singh, son of Banwari Lal, hailed from Saina Saida village in Kurukshetra district of Haryana. Singh had been working as a horse cart driver at Dilber Brick Kiln, one of the largest kilns operating in the Chadoora belt.
Fellow workers told Kashmir News Trust that Singh appeared to be in normal health when he retired to his hut after dinner last night. However, when his companions attempted to wake him in the morning, he did not respond. Panic spread across the labourers’ quarters, and kiln staff informed the local police, who arrived soon after.
The police shifted Singh’s body to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Chadoora, where medical staff conducted preliminary checks before ordering a post-mortem. Officials said the cause of death remains unclear and will only be confirmed after forensic examination.
Police officials confirmed that an inquest has been initiated. “Legal formalities are underway. The post-mortem will establish whether the death was natural or otherwise,” a police officer said. [KNT]
