Ganderbal, Dec 16,: After remaining closed for eight consecutive days, Srinagar-Leh Highway was restored for one-way traffic on Wednesday, however, traffic has been stopped again as a result of an avalanche at Dayal Zojila.

Administration had closed Srinagar-Leh Highway after heavy snowfall last week. Men and machinery were pressed into service to facilitate the movement of army vehicles but civilian traffic remained suspended for 8 today.

“Today road was thrown open but the fresh avalanche prompted authorities to close the highway once again,” said an official.

Meanwhile, DSP Traffic Rural Ganderbal Faeem Ali told KNT that only army convoy was allowed to move towards Srinagar, however, traffic was again suspended after an avalanche hit the site of Dayal Zojila pass.

SDM Drass Asghar Hussain told KNT that efforts are on to clear the snow near avalanche site and traffic hopefully will be resumed on Srinagar-Leh highway shortly. (KNT)
