Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid face heat for making a wrong move ahead of match vs PAK
India start their ICC T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Ahead of the game, the team has an optical practice session. Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Deepak Hooda and Mohammed Shami came out for practice
India won the first warm-up game against Australia, but their second match against New Zealand was washed out. Speaking to India Today, former India player Sunil Gavaskar slammed Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid for having an optional session ahead of the match against Pakistan.
“I don’t agree with this move. One of their games was washed out. They came to Melbourne and took a day off. The next day you decided to stay away from practice session,” he said.
“The power should be in the hands of a captain and coach and not with players. You can’t allow them to have their own ways. If a batter and bowler have fitness issues, they can rest,” he added. If you have done well in the tournament, players can be given a break but you don’t opt for the optional practice at the start of the tournament.
“They can come for practice on the eve of the game. What will happen if it rains tomorrow? Your practice is gone.”
