1,500 Smart Homes for Operation Sindoor & Flood-Hit Families
HRDS India to provide life insurance, free internet, and health care for beneficiaries
Srinagar, September 11: In a landmark initiative led by Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, the High-range Rural Development Society (HRDS India) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir to construct 1,500 free homes for families affected by Operation Sindoor, recent floods, and terror-related destruction.
Presiding over the MoU signing ceremony at Raj Bhawan, the Lieutenant Governor hailed the effort as a reflection of his vision to empower and safeguard the future of those who have suffered due to natural calamities and unprovoked enemy shelling. “Construction of houses is more than just putting up a structure—it is about building dreams, a fresh start, and a new chapter in the lives of affected families. The human losses are so profound and devastating that they can’t be measured, but this initiative will definitely ease their suffering,” he said.
HRDS India will build 1,500 three-bedroom “Smart Houses,” designed with modern features for comfort, safety, and digital inclusion. Under this initiative, HRDS India and the Divisional Commissioners will also identify families of terror victims whose homes were destroyed.
To further support these households, HRDS India will provide:
- 15-year life insurance coverage for all family members
- Monthly health check-ups and awareness sessions on health, education, hygiene, and preventive care
- Free internet access in collaboration with BSNL to ensure education, communication, and digital connectivity
- Free repainting of homes every five years to maintain living standards
Trained HRDS India volunteers will visit each beneficiary household every month to share information on new government schemes and provide ongoing support.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor; Shri Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Shri Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Shri Aji Krishnan, Founder-Secretary of HRDS India; Ms. Saritha P. Menon, Administrator; Shri Swaraj Kumar G., Director Corporate Sponsorship; and Shri Sanjeev Bhatnagar, Chairman Global Initiatives of HRDS India.
This comprehensive effort underscores the government’s commitment to not only rebuild homes but also restore hope and dignity for families who have endured immense hardships.
