Sumo-drivers overcharging in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal, People protest, ARTO assures action
Ganderbal, Jan 18, KNT: People in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal today alleged that the sumo drivers are charging them with hefty amounts as fare, causing inconvenience to travelers intending to travel from one place to another.
The residents of Anderwan area staged a protest and blocked the roads, raised slogans against administration and Sumo-drivers. They said administration has failed to take any action against Sumo drivers who over-charge at will.
The protesters told News Agency Kashmir News Trust that Sumo-drivers plying on Dursuma- Anderwan route are looting passengers. “For a distance of few kilometers these drivers charge Rs 40 to 50, which is unfair,” they said.
“We used to pay only Rs 10 to 15, but during the Covid-19 pandemic, these drivers increased fare arbitrarily without the approval from the administration.”
They also allege that there is no adherence to the SOPs. Later ARTO, Ganderbal rushed to spot and pacified the protesters. The officer assured protesters that any driver resorting to over-charging will be taken to task. (KNT)
