CHENNAI: As part of their ongoing National Integration Tour, a delegation of senior journalists from Kashmir, currently visiting Tamil Nadu under the auspices of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Srinagar, paid a visit to the historic Wallajah Big Mosque (Triplicane Big Mosque) in Chennai today.
The media team, comprising editors, reporters, and photojournalists representing various prominent media houses in Jammu & Kashmir, is on a week-long media outreach tour to explore the developmental landmarks, cultural heritage, and socio-economic landscape of the southern state.
During their visit to the 231-year-old architectural marvel, the journalists were briefed on the rich historical legacy of the mosque, which was built entirely of grey granite in 1795 by Nawab Muhammad Ali Khan Wallajah. The delegation showed keen interest in the mosque’s unique Indo-Islamic architecture and its long-standing history as a symbol of communal harmony.
The visiting media personnel noted the deep cultural ethos of the region and expressed how such inter-state exchange programs under PIB help bridge structural gaps and foster a deeper mutual understanding between the people of Kashmir and Tamil Nadu.
The team’s itinerary in Chennai includes interactions with top state officials, visits to major scientific installations, and exploration of iconic heritage sites to document the region’s holistic growth.
