CHENNAI — The ongoing cross-country media outreach tour reached a pivotal milestone today as a 13-member media delegation from Jammu and Kashmir (Srinagar Region) conducted an extensive, high-profile inspection of the Chennai Port.

Organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar Region, the exposure press tour placed the maritime giant at the very center of its itinerary. The visit gave Kashmiri journalists an open window into the massive cargo operations, supply chain logistics, and technological advancements driving India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 developmental roadmap.

Front-Row Seat to Maritime Excellence: Led by Shahid Mohammad Lone (Field Publicity Officer, CBC) and Ifham Ul Islam (Information Assistant, PIB Srinagar), the 11 visiting journalists from the Kashmir Valley spent the day analyzing real-time operations inside the Chennai Port Authority facility.

The timing of the port visit was notably significant. The delegation observed how the major trade hub handles industrial cargo at a massive scale—coinciding closely with the port’s recent historic feat where it managed an all-time high, single-day record loading of 14,778 tons of pig iron. Port officials briefed the delegation on the facility’s modernization plans, security protocols, and its foundational role in connecting India’s southern manufacturing hubs to international global markets.

Broader Engagements and Institutional Exposure:While the Chennai Port remained the crown jewel of today’s schedule, the comprehensive study tour also enabled the J&K media team to participate in high-level administrative and media exchange dialogues across the region:

  • Tamil Nadu Ministry Briefing: The journalists interacted with the Tamil Nadu Information Minister at the Doordarshan Chennai premises. The delegation was briefed on the state’s public communication architecture, welfare scheme awareness strategies, and broadcasting infrastructure.
  • Meeting with the LG of Puducherry: Earlier in the itinerary, the team met with Lieutenant Governor Kuniyil Kailashnathan. The discussions touched upon inter-state infrastructure planning, medical tourism, and economic insights that could be mirrored to boost industrial investments and transportation networks back home in Jammu and Kashmir.

The participating journalists shared that observing the heavy operations at the Chennai Port provided invaluable professional exposure to macro-level infrastructure projects that are outside their immediate geographical territory. The team will continue tracking national policy implementation on the ground before completing their five-day tour on September 19, 2026.
