Advertisement Rates, Journalists’ Welfare and Other Key Issues Discussed

Director Information Assures Priority Resolution of Issues, Seeks Cooperation from Journalists

Srinagar, October 30 (NNB): A delegation of the State Press Forum Jammu and Kashmir on Friday met Director Information, J&K, Mamta Yadav (IAS), and congratulated her on assuming charge as the head of the Department of Information and Public Relations.

According to the National News Bureau (NNB), the delegation held detailed discussions with the Director Information on various issues and demands concerning the media fraternity, newspaper organisations and journalists.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the financial challenges faced by newspapers, the need to increase existing advertisement rates, journalists’ welfare and other issues confronting media organisations.

The delegation emphasised that, in view of rising inflation and the increasing cost of newspaper production, a revision of advertisement rates and an appropriate increase were urgently needed to ensure the financial sustainability of newspapers.

It observed that newspapers are an important pillar of democracy, playing a vital role in disseminating authentic information to the public and strengthening communication between the government and the people. The delegation stressed that the genuine concerns of newspapers and journalists must be addressed on a priority basis to enable media organisations to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

The welfare of journalists, their financial and professional challenges, welfare initiatives and other related matters were also discussed during the meeting. The delegation urged the Director Information to consider the legitimate demands of journalists and newspaper organisations sympathetically and take effective measures for their redressal.

Responding to the concerns raised by the delegation, Mamta Yadav assured that all issues brought to her notice would be examined on a priority basis and every possible effort would be made to address them. She said the Department of Information was serious about journalists’ welfare and resolving the issues faced by media organisations.

The Director Information also emphasised the importance of cooperation from journalists and media organisations in taking forward welfare initiatives and addressing matters concerning the media fraternity. Seeking the cooperation of journalists, she said that effective solutions could be found through mutual coordination, constructive engagement and positive suggestions.
