Supreme Court dismissed the petition against Farooq Abdullah
New Delhi: A man has been fined Rs 50,000 by the Supreme Court for filing a petition against former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah over his statement on scrapping special status to the erstwhile state.
“Expression of views which are dissent and different from government opinion cannot be termed as seditious,” the Supreme Court said today.
Dismissing the petition, the Supreme Court said the petitioner has not been able to prove his allegation that Mr Abdullah sought China and Pakistan’s help to criticise India on scrapping special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution and dividing the state into two Union Territories.
