Encounter breaks out in Shopian village
‘Top LeT commander among two trapped’
Shopian, Jul 18 (KNO): An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Check Sadeeq Khan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday evening.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a joint team of Police, Army’s 34 RR Unit and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation based on a specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated to, triggering an encounter.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer also confirmed to KNO about the exchange of fire between forces and militants.
He said that a top Lashkar-e-Toiba militant commander along with his associate is trapped in the area—(KNO)
