Srinagar – In response to growing concerns from parents and school communities, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has recommended a shift to winter school timings in the Valley beginning next month. With temperatures dropping and students braving the early morning cold, the DSEK has formally requested the School Education Department to adjust school schedules in line with past practices.
In a letter addressed to the Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, the DSEK highlighted the need to align school hours with seasonal conditions to ease the strain on young students. According to the proposal, school timings within the Srinagar Municipal Limits would be set from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm starting November 1. Meanwhile, for schools located outside the Municipal Limits of Srinagar and across other areas in Kashmir Province, timings would adjust to 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
The move, if approved, is expected to alleviate the challenges faced by students, especially younger ones, who currently endure the early morning chill. Parents have welcomed the proposed change, with many expressing hope that the adjustment will be swiftly implemented for the comfort and well-being of their children.
The administration is expected to issue a formal decision in the coming days, responding to the DSEK’s proposal and the growing community concerns about seasonal school timings.
