Srinagar, June 16. In a deeply disturbing incident, a father has accused a doctor at ASG Eye Hospital in Srinagar’s Safakadal area of refusing medical treatment to his minor son, allegedly on the grounds that part of the child’s earlier treatment had been carried out outside Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the written complaint submitted to the Safakadal Police Station, the child, identified as Muhammad Musaib (MRD No. 111795), was taken to ASG Hospital on Monday, June 16, for continued care. However, a doctor identified as Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat at the facility, allegedly denied the boy treatment after learning that some portion of his earlier medical consultation had taken place in Chandigarh.

The father quoted the doctor as saying, “Why didn’t you complete the treatment there?”—a remark that the family describes as both insensitive and professionally unacceptable.

“This is not just unethical, it’s inhumane,” the aggrieved father wrote in his formal complaint, calling for immediate action against the said doctor and the hospital administration. “Denying treatment to a child simply because he received care elsewhere is an outright betrayal of medical duty and human compassion,” the aggrieved father told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

The incident has sparked outrage among many, with questions now being raised about the professional conduct at private healthcare institutions that often claim to operate by national and international medical standards.
Police sources confirmed receiving the complaint saying the matter is under preliminary investigation. “We are verifying the contents of the complaint and will proceed according to the law,” an official said.

The family has urged authorities to hold both the doctor and the hospital accountable, stating that such behavior has shaken their faith in the healthcare system. They have called for strict action to prevent similar experiences for others in the future.

Efforts to contact the hospital administration for their version of the incident remained unsuccessful at the time of filing this report. [KNT]
