Appeal to the Honourable Lieutenant Governor Jammu and Kashmir
We the Students/Scholars of the Geoinformatics subject wish to submit the following for your humble consideration. Geoinformatics is a highly technical subject and a professional course designated throughout the country. And as such, it is believed that the course needs a professional faculty to teach at UG and PG levels. Candidates from other subjects can’t do justice to teaching in Geoinformatics.
As per advertisement notification No. 2 of 2022 dated: Aug 25, 2022, hosted by the University of Kashmir, the eligibility criteria for the posts of Assistant Professor Geoinformatics have been set as; the candidates with good academic record with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the MSc/M.Tech. Geoinformatics/GIS/Remote Sensing / Geology/ Applied Geology /Geophysics/ Civil Engineering/Environmental Science/Physics from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University.
As in most of the subjects in the advertised notification, the only concerned subject is the posts’ eligibility. The eligibility criteria set for Geoinformatics is total injustice with M.Sc./Ph.D. Geoinformatics candidates. It is pertinent to mention here that the course syllabus of these subjects does not even match by 5%, and as such, it is difficult to understand how and what candidates from these subjects can teach.
It is highly unfortunate that despite our repeated requests to the University administration about the issue, the university administration is not taking any action regarding the change in eligibility for the post.
As such your good self is requested to take up the matter with the University of Kashmir so that justice should be served to the aspiring candidates of Geoinformatics as well as the students who have opted for the course at the University of Kashmir.
Thanking you in anticipation.
