Halt imposition of property tax till economic conditions improves in J&K: GN Azad tells govt
Srinagar, Feb 23 (KNS): Democratic Progressive Azad Party president Gulam Nabi Azad on Thursday said that the government should halt imposition of property tax for a few years till economic situation improve in the Union Territory.
Talking to reporters in Anantnag, Azad said as of now people are not in a position to pay the property tax and there is no person from Lakhanpur to Tangdhar who has not suffered losses during recent years.
He said people of J&K have suffered a lot in the last 30 years and property tax is imposed at a time when they are being snatched of their land and resources.
“People have no source of income. People do not have any problem in paying tax, but there should be some source of income to them. We know tax will benefit us, but people should have that power to pay the tax,” he said.
He said the government should have sympathy with the people and not impose laws and other policies on them while sitting in offices.
“I appeal to the government to halt imposition of tax for at least 5-6 years till the economic situation gets better in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. (KNS)
