At least five people were killed and several others injured in a bomb blast during Friday prayers at a madrassa in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The explosion occurred at Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak, Nowshera district.
Among those killed was Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (S) and son of the late Maulana Sami-ul-Haq. Authorities have confirmed that the explosion was a suicide attack. Rescue teams arrived promptly, and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack and directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured. The bombing comes at a time when security concerns are rising across the country, especially ahead of Ramadan.
Darul Uloom Haqqania, known for its historical connections, has been targeted in the past as well. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine those responsible for the attack.
