Amritsar, Sep 13 : In a major intelligence-led operation, the Counter Intelligence unit of Punjab Police has busted a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module in Amritsar, recovering a cache of weapons, narcotics and drug money.

Officials said six sophisticated pistols, including Glock and Px5 models, were seized along with one kilogram of heroin and ₹6 lakh in cash. The seizures were made after the arrest of five operatives allegedly working under the directions of handlers based in Pakistan.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the weapons and narcotics were being pushed across the border and supplied to criminals and gangsters in Punjab with the aim of fuelling illegal activities in the state.

A case under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar. Officials said further investigations are underway to trace the wider network and establish both past and future connections of the module.

Punjab Police said the operation underlines its commitment to dismantling narco-terror and organised crime syndicates. “We are determined to eradicate networks that seek to destabilise Punjab by pushing in drugs and weapons,” a senior officer said. [KNT]
