Driver Held After Contraband Seizure in Lal Bazar, FIR Registered

Srinagar, Sep 18 : Police in Lal Bazar recovered a significant quantity of narcotics during a late-night naka checking operation, leading to the arrest of a driver and registration of a case under the NDPS Act.

Officials said that a special naka was laid at Sheikh Colony Lal Bazar during the night hours. During the checking, a Santro car bearing registration number DL4CAP6047 was intercepted. The vehicle was being driven by Arshid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Wali Mohammad, a resident of Usman Colony Badamwari Lal Bazar.

Upon thorough inspection, the police recovered 2 kilograms and 345 grams of cannabis powder along with 65 grams of charas from the vehicle. The contraband was seized on the spot in the presence of witnesses.

Police immediately arrested the driver and registered a case under FIR No. 50/2025 at Police Station Lal Bazar. The case has been filed under sections 8 and 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

A senior police officer said that investigations have been initiated to trace the source and destination of the recovered narcotics. “We are committed to curbing the menace of drugs in the area and such naka checks will continue with greater intensity,” the officer added.

Locals in Lal Bazar appreciated the swift action taken by the police, stating that such efforts are vital to protect the youth from the growing drug problem in the Valley.

The police have urged the public to cooperate and share information about drug-related activities to help eradicate the menace from society. [KNT]
