In a deeply saddening turn of events, the son of the highly regarded Pakistani religious scholar, Maulana Tariq Jamil, took his own life at their family residence in Talamba, their native town in Punjab. This heart-wrenching incident was confirmed by the local police following a preliminary investigation on Sunday.
According to Captain (retd) Sohail Chaudhry, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) of Multan, “The DPO [district police officer] has seen a CCTV footage that shows Asim Jamil committing suicide.” The footage reportedly reveals that Asim shot himself in the chest. The police authorities are now sending the footage for further forensic analysis to gain a deeper understanding of the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
RPO Chaudhry also disclosed that Asim had been a psychiatric patient for many years, receiving medication to manage his condition. He tragically ended his own life with a 30-bore pistol, and it was noted that Asim had asked his domestic help, Imran, to fetch the firearm.
Providing additional context to the tragic event, the police officer mentioned that Asim had previously married a woman of his choice, but the marriage had later ended in divorce.
