Srinagar, Oct 29: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet five persons accused allegedly involved in cheating, forgery and fraudilent sale of migrant property, officials said on Thursday.

The officials said the chargesheet has been filed in FIR No. 34/2017 under Sections 420, 419, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B RPC before the court of CJM Sopore against Brij Nath, son of Tara Chand, resident of Amit Nagar Muthi Jammu; Gh. Mohi-Ud-din Dar, son of Ab Khaliq Dar, resident of Samson Budgam, Gh. Mohd Sheikh, son of Ab. Ahad Sheikh, resident of Sachin Banit Beerwah Budgam; Zahoor Ahmed Dar, son of Gh. Mohammad Dar, resident of Margipora Pattan; and Reyaz Ahmad Rather, son of Mohd Sultan Rather, resident of Margaripora Pattan Baramulla.

In a press statement, an EOW spokesperson said, “The case was registered on a written complaint alleging fraudulent sale of 14 kanals and 3 marlas of land bearing Survey No. 349 at Mouza Wussan, Goshbugh Pattan, owned by Jawahar Lal Bhat. Despite payments exceeding Rs. 1 crore, possession was not handed over nor the amount refunded.

Investigation revealed that the accused individuals hatched a criminal conspiracy in connivance with each other to cheat the complainant by resorting to impersonation, fabricated identity documents and misuse of a purported Power of Attorney. Two of the accused, Brij Nath @ Soom Nath @ Hadi Nath @ Mohan Lal and Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Dar were arrested in late September. Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Dar secured bail, while Brij Nath remains in Central Jail. Other cases against both accused are also under investigation”.

The Economic Offences Wing Srinagar had earlier filed a chargesheet in Case FIR No. 27/2021 in August 2023 against Brij Nath Bhat, S/o Late Tara Chand Bhat, R/o Indira Nagar, Srinagar (A/P House No. 156, Amit Nagar, Muthi, District Jammu), and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, S/o Abdul Ahad Sheikh, R/o Sachen Bannet, Beerwah, District Budgam, making this the second chargesheet filed against both accused persons, he said.SSP EOW Kashmir advised the public to verify land ownership and documents thoroughly before property transactions to prevent fraud and financial losses.
