Govt allows 8th Muharram procession on traditional routes from 6 to 8 am tomorrow
Srinagar, July 26: In a major development, Government of J&K has decided to allow 8th Muharram procession on traditional routes for a limited period of two hours, officials said.
“After thorough consultations with the representatives of Shia community, the government of J&K Union Territory has given nod to 8th Muharram procession,” a top official of the administration disclosed.
“J&K Govt. has decided to allow 8th Muharram procession through its traditional route tommorrow from 6 am to 8 am after almost 3 decades,” official added.
Pertinently Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday had convened a high level meeting wherein issues pertaining to Muharram were discussed. The meeting was attended by several Shia leaders from whom suggestions were received for smooth conduct of Muharram activities. (KNS)
