Srinagar Sizzles Even Before Sunrise: Kashmir Records Hottest-Ever June Night

Srinagar, 25 June: In an unprecedented development, Srinagar has recorded its highest-ever minimum temperature for the month of June. The city registered a sweltering 25.0°C last night — a temperature typically associated with the daytime highs of late May, not the early hours of dawn.

According to meteorological data, this is the first time in recorded history that the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir has witnessed such elevated night temperatures in June. It signals an alarming shift in local climate patterns and adds to the growing concern over the intensifying heatwave conditions in the Valley.

The current average daytime temperature in Srinagar hovers around 29.2°C, indicating that the city is experiencing tropical-like heat conditions even during the early morning hours.

It wasn’t just Srinagar that experienced record-breaking warmth. Pahalgam, a hill resort known for its cool climate, also witnessed its highest-ever minimum temperature for June at 18.8°C. Traditionally seen as a summer escape for Kashmiris and tourists alike, the hill town’s unusually warm night has raised eyebrows among climate observers.

Experts warn that such persistent high night temperatures can have a direct impact on agriculture, water resources, and overall human health, especially for vulnerable populations like the elderly and children.

“This is not just a heatwave; this is a signal that our climate is shifting rapidly,” said a senior meteorologist from Kashmir Weather. “The Valley is now waking up to temperatures that used to define mid-summer highs, not overnight lows.”

As the mercury continues to rise, authorities are urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid peak sun exposure, and take necessary precautions to combat the heat.

With monsoons still days away, the question now looms: Is this just an anomaly — or the new normal for Kashmir’s summer?
