‘Credits PM Modi’s sustained efforts for peace in J&K; Marathon fosters unity and brotherhood; Encourages foreign and domestic athletes to explore the Valley’s scenic spots; Praises Tourism Department for excellent arrangements’
Srinagar, Oct 20: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, highlighted the role of a peaceful environment in making the Kashmir Marathon a reality in Srinagar, attributing the success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Kashmir Marathon, LG Sinha stressed that the event would not have been possible without the calm and secure atmosphere in the region. “The success of this grand event is thanks to PM Modi’s focus on building quality infrastructure and ensuring peace in the Valley. This allowed Srinagar’s streets to host a vibrant marathon with athletes from across the globe,” he said.
The LG emphasized that the Kashmir Marathon is more than a race—it’s an event that unites people and fosters a sense of brotherhood and harmony. “This marathon is not just about competition; it symbolizes the spirit of unity among all those who participated and supported it,” he remarked.
He expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic participation of Srinagar’s residents. “More than 1700 athletes, including international participants, took part in the event, running either the full marathon of 42 kilometers or the half marathon of 21 kilometers. This positions Kashmir as a key player in the global marathon scene,” Sinha added.
The LG also announced plans to extend similar events to Jammu, promising that the spirit of the marathon will soon be felt there as well. “A similar event will be organized in Jammu in the near future,” he assured.
In addition to celebrating the success of the marathon, the LG emphasized PM Modi’s vision of transforming Jammu & Kashmir into a global tourist destination. He encouraged visiting athletes to explore the Valley’s picturesque spots and experience its rich culture.
Sinha noted that in recent years, Srinagar has hosted various significant events, including the Football Championship, winter sports, G-20 meetings, the Legends League Cricket, and now, the Kashmir Marathon. He commended the Tourism Department for their exemplary arrangements, ensuring the smooth execution of this milestone event.
