In its official statement, the NSC said: “Any attempt to stop or divert the flow of water belonging to Pakistan as per the Indus Waters Treaty, and the usurpation of lower riparian rights, will be considered an act of war and responded to with full force.”
The Pakistani government called India’s decision to suspend the treaty a violation of international law, stating, “The Treaty is a binding agreement brokered by the World Bank and does not allow for unilateral suspension.”
