Srinagar, Aug 26 : In a significant development ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, the National Conference (NC) and Congress have forged a pre-poll alliance, agreeing to a seat-sharing arrangement.
As part of the alliance, former Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Vikar Rasool will contest on friendly terms with NC candidate Sajjad Shaheen in the Banihal Assembly Constituency.
The NC will contest 51 seats, while the Congress will field candidates in 30 constituencies. In five constituencies, the two parties will engage in a “friendly contest,” allowing both parties to field candidates without actively campaigning against each other.
Furthermore, the alliance has decided to share one seat each with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and the Panthers Party, broadening the coalition’s reach.
A Congress leader told KNT that they will shortly issue a press statement in this regard. [KNT]
