Protesters Seek Justice For Lolab Youth Who Died Within 3 Days Of Marriage

Investigations Underway, Reality To Be Known Soon: DIG NKR Sujit Kumar

Kupwara, Jun 19 (GNS): A number of people on Saturday staged protest, demanding immediate action against ‘murderers’ of a youth from Wavoora Lolab area here who died within three days of his marriage earlier this month.

The protestors, mainly women, took to streets and chanted slogans like ‘we want justice’, ‘Qatil Ko Phansi Do (hang the murderer). The protestors demanded police to expedite the investigation and bring those responsible for the ‘murderer’ to book.
The police urged the protesters to remain peaceful and assured them that fair investigation into the matter.

When contacted, a police official told GNS that a case (FIR No. 38/2021) stands registered at Police Station Sogam Lolab, under section 309 (attempt to commit suicide). The youth had died after consuming some poisonous substance and as per the protesters it was “murder” and not the suicide. Police have already questioned widow of the youth and his close relative in connection with the case, the official said.

“The investigations are on in this regard. Police is looking from all angles including abetment to suicide,” the official added.

Meanwhile DIG North Kashmir Range, Sujit Kumar, who was on official visit to the area, interacted with the protestors and assured them that the things will be made clear very soon.

When contacted, Kumar told GNS, that preliminary investigations into the case are ongoing. “Things will be clear within a matter of few days,” Kumar added. (GNS)
