Awantipora, June 14 Several persons sustained injuries, some of them serious, in a road accident that took place at Barsoo Awantipora on the Srinagar-Anantnag highway (NH-44) on Saturday.
According to reports, the accident occurred when a Taveera vehicle (bearing registration number JK01Q-5159) collided head-on with a fruit-laden truck on the busy highway. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the Taveera badly mangled and resulting in multiple injuries to its occupants. The fruit-laden truck turned turtle due to collision.
Local residents and passersby immediately rushed to the spot and informed the authorities. Police and rescue teams reached the site shortly after the mishap and launched rescue operations to evacuate the injured passengers trapped inside the vehicle. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. While some of the victims received minor injuries, a few are reported to be in critical condition and are undergoing specialized medical care.
The accident led to temporary disruption of traffic on the highway, causing inconvenience to commuters. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
