SRINAGAR: A picnic turned tragic for a Srinagar-based family on Sunday evening after four members drowned in the River Jhelum near the NHPC Canal in the Gantmulla area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district,The family was on a picnic when two children accidentally slipped into the river. Two other family members jumped in to rescue them but also drowned. A local resident immediately jumped into the river and managed to rescue one person. The body of one minor was later retrieved, while two persons reportedly one minor and one adult remain missing,” officials said.The rescued individual was shifted to Boniyar hospital for medico-legal formalities, the official added.A large-scale search and rescue operation has been launched, involving police, SDRF teams, and local volunteers.SHO Boniyar, while confirming the incident said the operation is ongoing and all efforts are being made to trace the missing individuals.
