Srinagar, Kashmir – November 20, 2023: As the early winter cold tightens its grip on Srinagar, Kashmir, the Directorate office of Education department has already issued orders for both private and government schools to adjust their timings (10:00am to 3:00 pm) to accommodate the chilly weather conditions.
Our on-field correspondent, Zia Shakeel, ventured into the frosty morning streets of Srinagar to gauge the impact of the cold wave on students and educational routines. In a candid interaction with school kids waiting for buses around 9:30 am, Zia discovered that the combination of biting cold and dense fog has become a matter of concern for the young learners.
The low visibility caused by the thick fog has prompted students to voice their concerns through Shaharbeen Times. Some students expressed their difficulties in commuting to school in the early morning hours, emphasizing the need for a more practical approach to the current schedule.
In their requests to the Director of Education, students proposed a shift in school timings to a later start, suggesting an opening time of 11 am instead of the current 10 am. Additionally, the students appealed for early winter vacations for primary classes, taking into consideration the harsh weather conditions that make commuting challenging for the younger students.
The plea for adjusted school timings and early winter vacations reflects the genuine concerns of the student community in the face of the severe cold and foggy mornings in Srinagar. As the winter season tightens its grip on the region, the Director of Education is expected to review these requests to ensure the well-being and safety of students during their daily commute to schools. The education department is urged to strike a balance between maintaining the academic schedule and addressing the practical challenges posed by the inclement weather.
