20-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after being gang-raped and blackmailed in Haryana’s Nuh district, police said on Wednesday. The victim’s body has been kept at Hospital in Mandi Khera for postmortem examination.According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father at Bichhor Police Station, the incident took place on the night of May 18 when he had gone out for some work. He alleged that three to four youths from the same village forcibly entered their house around 1 am while his daughter was asleep in a room.
The father alleged that the accused stuffed a cloth into the victim’s mouth and raped her one after another. He further claimed that the accused recorded objectionable photos and videos of the woman on their mobile phones during the assault.As per the complaint, the accused allegedly continued to blackmail the victim by threatening to upload the videos and photographs on social media. They also allegedly warned her against revealing the incident to anyone and threatened to kill her if she spoke out.
The victim reportedly remained under severe mental distress after the incident and later informed her family about the assault. The family alleged that due to fear of social stigma and mounting psychological pressure, the woman consumed a poisonous substance on Tuesday evening.She was first admitted to a private hospital before doctors referred her to a higher medical centre due to her deteriorating condition. Meanwhile, police were informed through a helpline call and officers reached the spot to record the woman’s preliminary statement.However, while the family was shifting her to another hospital, she died on the way, police said. Authorities have initiated further investigation into the case.
