Jammu, Sept 23, The Jammu Division of Jammu & Kashmir has borne the brunt of the recent 2025 floods, with heavy rains triggering flash floods, road washouts, and widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and livelihoods. According to official figures presented by the Jammu divisional administration, at least 150 people have lost their lives in the region. Another 178 are injured, and 33 are still missing.
The housing damage according to official figures, is massive. Over 12,800 residential houses have been affected in Jammu, with about 4,200 fully damaged and more than 8,600 partially destroyed. Livestock losses are similarly severe, with 1,455 animals reported killed or lost. Farmlands and orchards over 1,300 hectares have also been devastated.
The floods, as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust, didnโt even spare roads and essential infrastructure. Over 1,500 kilometres of roads were destroyed. Around 330 bridges were washed away in various districts. Over 49,000 power distribution transformers and more than 2,000 water supply projects were also damaged.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called upon all departments to expedite damage assessments so that a consolidated relief proposal can be submitted to the central government. Permanent restoration of damaged infrastructure and rehabilitation of affected families are being prioritised.
In the Kashmir region, though damage is less severe than in Jammu, there has been significant loss too. Authorities reported 870 houses damaged in Kashmir: 16 completely destroyed, 57 severely damaged, and 791 partially affected. Important roads, water schemes and bridges also sustained big losses.
