Union Cabinet approves draft legislation proposing stricter punishment for exam paper leaks. CJP tells Centre that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation remains a non-negotiable demand.

New Delhi, July 25: The Union Cabinet has approved a draft Bill proposing stricter punishment for examination paper leaks and organised malpractice, even as talks between the Centre and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) failed to break the deadlock over the demand for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

The meeting between government representatives and CJP leaders was held on Friday at the Constitution Club of India after the Centre agreed to shift the venue from the Education Ministry to a neutral location.

The Cabinet’s approval of the proposed legislation came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the government would introduce a tougher law to curb paper leaks and examination fraud. The proposed Bill seeks harsher penalties for those involved in organised examination malpractice.

Despite welcoming the government’s move to tighten the law, CJP leaders reiterated that the “strictest action” would be the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The organisation maintained that his resignation remains “non-negotiable” in view of the alleged irregularities in national entrance examinations.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi also shared another Instagram reel thanking citizens for their “insightful” suggestions on his earlier video addressing the paper leak issue. He said public feedback would continue to play an important role in strengthening the government’s response.

The protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over alleged examination irregularities have continued for several days, with thousands of students demanding accountability and comprehensive reforms in the country’s examination system. Government sources, however, have maintained that Dharmendra Pradhan continues to enjoy the government’s confidence and that there is no proposal for his resignation.
