Srinagar, July 25: Water levels in the River Jhelum continued to recede across all major monitoring stations in Kashmir on Friday morning, bringing relief after days of heavy rainfall and an elevated flood threat.
According to the latest gauge readings recorded at 6:00 am, the river level has been steadily falling at key monitoring stations, including Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar, Sangam in Anantnag, and Pampore, indicating a gradual improvement in the overall flood situation.
Officials said the decline in water levels follows a reduction in rainfall intensity over the past 24 hours. However, authorities have advised residents, particularly those living along the riverbanks and other vulnerable areas, to remain cautious as water levels are still above normal at several locations.
The Irrigation and Flood Control Department continues to closely monitor the situation, while district administrations have urged people to follow official advisories and avoid venturing near rivers, streams and other water bodies unnecessarily.
The Meteorological Department has also forecast a gradual improvement in weather conditions over the next 24 hours, although another spell of rain is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir from July 28 onward.
