Hamas Agrees in Principle to Gaza Disarmament Plan; Official Statement Expected

Shaharbeen Times News Desk
Gaza | July 31:

Hamas has agreed in principle to a proposed plan for the complete disarmament of the group in Gaza, according to a senior Hamas official quoted by the BBC. The official said a formal statement confirming the decision is expected to be released soon.

Israel has not yet commented on the reported development.

US President Donald Trump said Israel would withdraw its forces from Gaza once the disarmament process is completed, calling the agreement “a critical step” toward the establishment of a new Palestinian government in the territory.

The reported proposal forms part of the second phase of a US-backed Gaza ceasefire framework. Besides Hamas’ disarmament, the plan also includes the reconstruction of Gaza and the formation of a new Palestinian administration.

According to the proposal, an International Stabilization Force would work alongside a newly established Palestinian police force to maintain security and oversee stability in Gaza after the withdrawal of Israeli forces.

The reported agreement, if officially confirmed, could mark a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to end the conflict and pave the way for post-war governance and reconstruction in Gaza. Israel’s official response and Hamas’ formal announcement are still awaited.
