SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch JK has filed a chargesheet against an alleged fraudster accused of cheating a complainant of lakhs of rupees by promising a government job for his son, officials said.
The chargesheet was presented before the Court of Forest Magistrate, Srinagar, in FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Lishtiyal, Kalaroos in Kupwara district.
According to the EOW, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that Mir took money from the complainant on the assurance that he would arrange a government job for his son. The accused allegedly handed over an appointment order purportedly issued by the Airports Authority of India, which was later found to be forged.
The EOW said its investigation substantiated the allegations, following which the chargesheet was submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.Mir was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is currently lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar, according to the Crime Branch.
The agency said 15 criminal cases have been registered against Mir across different parts of the Kashmir Valley. It also alleged that he impersonated influential individuals and bureaucrats to gain the confidence of people and defraud them.The EOW has urged members of the public to exercise caution when approached with offers of government employment or other financial inducements and to report suspected economic fraud.
