Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to examine aspirants’ grievances on Reservation Rules; no timeline for report submission: Govt

Srinagar, Mar 15: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday said that a Cabinet Sub-Committee has been constituted to examine aspirants’ grievances regarding the Reservation Rules. However, no timeline has been fixed for submitting the report.The response came in a written reply to a question by Sajad Gani Lone, who asked whether six months had been granted to the Cabinet Sub-Committee to review the reservation policy.In response, the government stated, “The Cabinet Sub-Committee stands constituted vide Government Order No. 2061-JK(GAD) of 2024, dated 10.12.2024, to examine the grievances projected by a section of aspirants for various posts regarding the Reservation Rules. However, no specific timeline has been fixed for submitting the report.”Regarding a question on the details of the SC and ST populations benefitted in Jammu and Kashmir divisions separately, the government said, “The region-wise details of the SC/ST populations who have obtained SC/ST certificates in the last two years, effective from 01.04.2023 till date, are as follows: In Jammu, 67,112 SC and 4,59,493 ST individuals have obtained these certificates, respectively.”In Kashmir, there are no SC beneficiaries, while 79,813 ST certificates have been issued in the past two years.Similarly, Lone also sought details of the total number of villages benefitted region-wise under ALC, IB, and RBA categories. In response, the government stated that in Jammu, 268 villages fall under ALC, 551 under IB, and 1,379 under RBA. In Kashmir, 16 villages fall under ALC, none under IB, and 1,229 under RBA.The government also revealed that in the last two years, 27,420 EWS certificates have been issued in Jammu Division and 2,273 in Kashmir. It further stated that as per S.O. 176 of 2024, dated 15.03.2024, there are 41 communities or classes under the OBC list of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
