Curfew imposed in Manipur’s Imphal East and West

Following the escalation in violence in Manipur and Monday’s protests in different parts of the state, an indefinite curfew was imposed in both the Imphal districts on Tuesday.The district administrations of both Imphal East and Imphal West issued curfew orders effective from 11 am on Tuesday citing “the developing law and order situation”.The Imphal West administration has restricted “the movement of any person(s) outside their respective residences” until further orders, exempting essential services and the media.As 11 people have been killed in different incidents of ethnic violence in the state since September 1, students have led massive protests in the valley areas, particularly in Thoubal and Imphal.
