Bandipora, Sep 11, KNT: A massive search and rescue operation entered its second day on Friday to trace and recover a 13-year-old boy who reportedly drowned in Madhumati Nalla near DPL Bandipora on Thursday evening.
The missing boy has been identified as Moomin Ahmad, son of Aashiq Hussain Ganie, a resident of Ganie Mohalla, Kaloosa.
According to reports, the boy slipped into the stream near Kaloosa Bridge while trying to retrieve a ball and was swept away by the strong current.
Following the incident, teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation to trace the boy. SDRF teams from Bandipora and Battalion Headquarters Srinagar are continuing the search and rescue efforts.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Indu Kanwal Chib visited Kaloosa on Friday to oversee the search operation and review arrangements being made by the rescue teams.
The Deputy Commissioner expressed grief over the incident and conveyed her sympathies to the family. She also urged residents living near Madhumati Nalla to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of children in the area.
MLA Bandipora Nizam-ud-Din Bhat also visited Madhumati Nalla in Kaloosa to assess the ongoing rescue operation and take stock of the situation.
The search operation remained underway, with rescue teams continuing efforts along the stream and surrounding areas to locate the missing boy. [KNT]
