An unidentified burglar allegedly broke into a bungalow in the upscale Science City area of Ahmedabad and escaped with gold ornaments worth ₹8 lakh and ₹50,000 in cash, police said on Wednesday. As per the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at Bodakdev police station, the theft took place sometime between the night of October 15 and the afternoon of October 17, when the complainant and his family were away for Diwali celebrations. The complainant, Shaileshbhai Patel (49), is a businessman and resident of Vrundavan Bungalows in Sola. Patel stated that on the night of October 15, he and his wife had slept in the ground-floor bedroom of their bungalow before leaving town for Diwali. On October 17, around noon, while he was at work in Gandhinagar, his wife called to inform him that the glass window on the third floor of their bungalow had been broken, suggesting a possible break-in.Upon returning home, Patel discovered that a gold necklace with an American diamond knot design, weighing about 16 tolas and valued at ₹8 lakh, along with ₹50,000 in cash kept in a wooden drawer on the second floor, was missing.“The unknown person broke the glass of the third-floor window, entered the house and decamped with the gold jewellery and cash,” said police.
