IIT Student Commits Suicide By Jumping From A Hostel Building
In the early hours of Monday, a 26-year-old IIT Bombay student committed himself by jumping off the terrace of his hostel on the Powai campus, according to authorities.
According to a senior officer, the deceased student was undergoing treatment for depression at the time of his death.
According to a Powai police station official, the deceased student, Darshan Malviya, had scribbled a statement on the board in his hostel room declaring that no one should be held accountable for his death.
A watchman outside the seven-story hostel building discovered Malviya’s body and alerted an institute administrator. Police were notified afterwards. Malviya was brought to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead before being admitted, according to the official.
The student had written a message on the board in his hostel room which shows he was undergoing treatment for depression. Further investigation is underway, he said. (PTI)
