Iranian armed forces have seized a container ship near the Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions across the region after a deadly Israeli attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria.
The ship was commandeered by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite force that lost seven members, including two generals, in the Syria strike, Iranian state media reported on Saturday.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden said that he expects Iran to attack Israel “sooner, rather than later” and warned Tehran to not proceed with it. In his message to Iran, Biden simply said: “Don’t”, adding that the US is “devoted to the defence of Israel”. “We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed,” he said, reported Reuters.
