Srinagar May 01 The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH) was opened for passenger vehicles at 09: 50 am today, after being closed for more than 24 hours due to landslides and maintenance work.
According to the Traffic Police J&K, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) carrying passengers are now allowed to ply on the highway from both Jammu and Srinagar sides. However, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) such as trucks and buses will remain suspended until further directions.
Further more commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking, as it may lead to congestion and accidents.
Additionally the Jammu-Srinagar NH is a critical lifeline for the Kashmir Valley, connecting it to the rest of the country.
Meanwhile Traffic update at 0950 hrs
LMVs (passenger) traffic released from both ends on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, overtaking will lead to congestion. No movement of any kind of HMV shall be allowed till further directions “Traffic Police J&K”. (ANR)
