Khursheed Aalam Criticizes NC Govt For Lack of Effort

Srinagar, Jan 1: People’s Democratic Party leader Khursheed Aalam has expressed strong discontent with the National Conference government for its failure to reinstate two significant holidays in Jammu and Kashmir: Martyrs’ Day on July 13 and the birth anniversary of NC founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah on December 5.

While talking to reporters, Aalam emphasized that Martyrs’ Day holds a deep emotional connection for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, commemorating those who sacrificed their lives for the region. He criticized the NC government for not taking this matter seriously, stating that its lack of effort in restoring these holidays reflects a disconnect with public sentiment.

Aalam as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust acknowledged the historical importance of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah as a leader but underscored that the sacrifices made by the martyrs carry even greater significance. “Everyone was hopeful that these holidays, which were annulled, would be restored. However, the NC government has failed to deliver on these expectations,” he stated.

The PDP leader further accused the NC of selective silence, pointing out that while the party has spoken about restoring December 5 as a holiday, it has remained conspicuously quiet about July 13. He criticized the NC for only raising the issue after the official holiday calendar for the region was released, stating, “There was no visible effort from the NC government to address the matter proactively.” KNT
