Kulgam, March 26: As part of the ongoing crackdown on drug peddlers and smugglers, Kulgam Police have taken stringent action by attaching properties worth more than ₹1.5 crores under the provisions of Section 68 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Two double-storied residential houses, belonging to Reyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Jabbar Ganie, a resident of Nassu Badragund, Qazigund, have been attached. The properties, measuring 1271 sq. ft. and 764 sq. ft., are located on land bearing Khasra No. 427 min at Nassu Badragund. This action has been executed under Section 68 of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 103/2024.
The accused, Reyaz Ahmad Ganie, is a notorious drug peddler involved in drug trafficking, particularly among the youth. Multiple cases have been registered against him, including:
FIR No. 310/2015 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act
FIR No. 103/2024 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act
Currently, he is lodged under the PIT NDPS Act at Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu. Additionally, his brother, Bilal Ahmad Ganie, has also been implicated in drug-related crimes, with FIR No. 64/2023 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act registered against him at Qazigund Police Station, where a substantial quantity of narcotics was recovered.
The investigation has revealed that both the attached properties were acquired through proceeds from the illegal narcotics trade. As per Sections 68E and 68F of the NDPS Act, the attached properties cannot be transferred, sold, or dealt with in any manner without prior approval from the competent authority.
This firm action reflects the unwavering commitment of Kulgam Police to eliminating the drug menace and dismantling the networks involved in narcotics trafficking. Authorities have reiterated their dedication to safeguarding the community, especially the youth, from the devastating effects of drug abuse.
