Local Mohalla Committee accuses Tehsildar of ‘favouritism’, Stages protest in Srinagar
Srinagar, June 5, KNT: Locals Saturday staged a protest in Court Road area of Srinagar city seeking intervention of District Development Commissioner in what they called Tehsildar South ‘illegally’ supporting an influential man in grabbing the property of a local shopkeepers.
The protest was organized by Local Mohalla Committee Court Road Srinagar.
The protesters said that a man has filed an application before the District Magistrate Srinagar under Jammu and Kashmir Migrant immovable Property (preservation, protection and restrain on distress sales) Act.
They said the property is occupied by 23 Shareholders and every shareholder is in possession of his share in the building. “The shareholders have deposed before the District Magistrate and the matter is pending for disposal.
“We are protesting against the orders passed by Tehsildar Srinagar which are arbitrary in nature. We fail to understand why Tehsildar Srinagar is poking his nose into a matter which does not come under his domain,” they said.
The protesters as per news agency KNT said that: “District Magistrate Srinagar directed to ascertain the share of man in question without affecting share of non-migrants that is us.”
The protesters said that Naib Tehsildar Srinagar in his report has clearly mentioned that the man in question does not possess any share in the property. “It was his wife who is now deceased and her 3 children who are possessing share in the property only to the extent of 27 square feet. Quite surprisingly the Tehsildar South passed the order which was challenged in the High Court and the court has passed an order asking for report from the Tehsildar South Srinagar but Tehsildar South Srinagar passed again another order for sealing the premises to the extent of 110 sq ft from our property,” the protesters said seeking the intervention of DC Srinagar.
They alleged that Tehsildar South is showering undue favour to this person who according to them has no locus standi even to file an application. (KNT)
