Doda, Oct 13: A moderate earthquake, measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale, struck the Chenab valley early this morning, with its epicenter located in the Gundoh area of Doda district.
The earthquake hit the region at around 6:14 am, causing a brief tremor that was felt across the area. Residents reported being woken up by the shaking, though the duration of the tremor was short.
“We don’t often experience such moderate earthquakes, but today’s tremor woke us up and prevented anyone from leaving their homes,” shared a resident of Doda town.
The Chenab valley has been experiencing frequent tremors over the past few years. Experts suggest that these moderate quakes can help release underground pressure, potentially reducing the risk of a larger seismic event in the future.
As per early reports, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported from any part of the region.
