Mughal Road likely to open for traffic tomorrow: Officials

Srinagar, Dec 30: Authorities on Monday said that Mughal road will likely be thrown open for traffic movement tomorrow, if weather conditions remain favourable.The officials said that J&K Mechanical Engineering Department has completed the process of snow clearance from both ends of the stretch – Shopian and Poonch sides.The necessary work for snow clearance on Mughal road up to Pir Ki Gali from Poonch side is done. Earlier on Sunday evening, the authorities cleared the snow up to Pir Ki Gali from Shopian side,” the officials said.This vital Mughal road connecting twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch with Kashmir valley got closed on Friday after fresh snowfall while the J&K Mechanical Engineering Department completed the snow clearance work from Shopian side on Sunday evening. The department has also completed the work from Poonch side on Monday afternoon.Assistant Engineer, MED, Tariq Mehmood informed that after clearing the snow from road surface on single lane basis, the men and machinery of the department is now working to widen the road for two lane movement.He said the snow clearance machinery has reached Pir Ki Gali from Poonch side on Monday afternoon where the machinery of Shopian side was already present as they had completed the snow clearance work on Sunday late evening.Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Surankote, Farooq Khan Nazki said that Mughal Road is expected to be thrown open for traffic on Tuesday if weather remains clear.“The accumulated snow on the road has been cleared up to Pir Ki Gali, and we are expecting restoration of road by tomorrow morning, depending upon the clear weather conditions,” the SDM said.
