Omar Abdullah Urges J&K Police to Refrain from Creating Green Corridor for His Movement
Srinagar: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has made a request to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, asking them not to create a green corridor for his movement through the region. The green corridor, typically used to ensure the smooth and unobstructed passage of VIP convoys, can result in road closures and delays for the general public.
Just hours after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah instructed the police of the Union Territory to minimize “public inconvenience” during VIP movements. In his first directive to the police, he emphasized the need to avoid “waving sticks” and using “aggressive gestures” when he travels by road.
“I have spoken to the DG of Jammu and Kashmir Police, instructing that there should be no ‘green corridor’ or halting of traffic during my road movements. I have directed him to minimize public inconvenience, and the use of sirens should be kept to a minimum. Any waving of sticks or aggressive gestures is to be completely avoided. I am also encouraging my cabinet colleagues to adopt the same approach. Our behavior must always be people-friendly; we are here to serve the people, not to create difficulties for them,” Abdullah wrote on X.
