Omar Abdullah Shifts Political Focus: Opts Out of Srinagar, to Contest from Baramulla in Upcoming Elections
In a strategic move, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has decided not to contest the Parliamentary Elections from Srinagar. Instead, he will be contesting from the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency, announced the National Conference on Friday.
NC president Farooq Abdullah confirmed Omar Abdullah’s candidacy from the Baramulla Parliamentary seat, marking a significant shift in the party’s election strategy.
Moreover, the NC president also disclosed that prominent Shia leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi will contest from the central Kashmir’s Srinagar constituency, a traditional stronghold for the National Conference.
The polling for the Baramulla constituency is scheduled for May 20.
